Momma Boy Musings & the Work of God

Disclaimer: This is not aimed at any one person and I am not airing anything publicly – these are my random musings about relationships and personal experiences. If something hits a nerve with you, it is God touching you, convicting you of an area in your life where you need His help – He’s there for you.

I’ve come to realize that I have this uncanny attraction for “Momma Boys”. It appears that they seek out a relationship with me because I unknowingly put out some sort of “I’ll take care of you.” beacon and it pulls them in. The relationship happens until there is a conflict that arises – The Real Mother or unknown expectations – “My mom would….or my mom needs…” and once again you are made to feel like you are second best, if that.

I think the issue at hand isn’t that I’m not like their mother – it’s that I believe that they – the son – were meant to do more, be more, live more, and are actually held back by a mother who can’t let go of her son – allow him to live his life; allow him to make his decisions on his own; allow him to learn from his mistakes; allow him to face the consequences of his actions; and – to Let Him Go!

If something wasn’t packed for a trip – it’s not mom’s fault – it’s his fault! Be responsible and pack your own stuff! Let him deal with forgetting to pack a dress shirt or a razor or his underwear…there’s always a way to get an extra one.

If he isn’t doing his part around the house – make him responsible for his belongings; his laundry; his dishes; his own bills or expenses.

If he has other commitments and responsibilities – whether it is a house, an organization, or his own family – let him commit to them first. They should be his first priority. If you still need help, ask politely for it and make it be on his timeframe – not yours.

Parents raise us the best way they know how – I was blessed with the parents God gave me. Are they perfect? Of course not but they taught me how to love unconditionally – including the faults we all have; they taught me about God and Him wanting a relationship with us – whether we give Him the time of day or are fully committed to Him is up to us. They taught me about forgiveness – to those who do wrong to you, to those who speak ill of you, to each other. They taught me to trust God in everything because without Him in your life, things get very rough! They taught me the best way to take care of your children is to lift them to the Lord in prayer. They pray without ceasing even when it looks like there is no hope on the horizon.

Separation, anger, disgust, hatred – the list goes on and on – it occurs when those who want to draw closer to God and improve their relationship with Him and to find their life’s purpose through His will are met with an offensive attack from those we live with, family, and friends who are not committed to their personal relationship with God. They become a vessel of darkness, used by Satan, to cause pain and suffering. They seek to drive a wedge into what is good and turn it to evil.

It’s a spiritual battle between principalities and powers not a battle of the wills – unless it is the will of God which overcomes against the will of Satan which shall be defeated. My “will” is not fighting your “will” – my will, my free sinful nature fights against goodness.

I choose grace – God’s Redemption at Christ’s Expense.
I choose the peace that passes all understanding.
I choose to be a light in the darkness – much like a beacon from the lighthouse leading the ships safely in.
I choose love – not made by man but unconditional from my Heavenly Father who loves me for who I am and as I am – all my faults, all my misgivings, all my fears, all my worldly possessions, all my dreams and passions – everything about me He loves!
I choose to believe in a God who loves mankind. He has made a plan for my life. He knows every little detail and already knows what is going to happen. He is using my circumstances to draw me closer to Him, to bring Him glory in the battles with my adversaries. I may not like the persecution, the name calling, the accusations but I choose to turn the other cheek and survive it because that is what He has called the church to do.

We are not “of” this world – we’re just a passing through.

I want to live a life that leaves a legacy – a legacy yet to be determined…

I am determined to live by what is right; to do what is right according to God’s principles – NOT MAN’S!

Man looks on the outward while God looks at the heart. May He find my heart pleasing for His glory.

Ask yourself today – What does God see in my heart?
Does he see fear? Ask Him for comfort and peace.
Does he see hate? Ask him for His love.
Does he see anger, confusion, a longing to belong? Ask him for acceptance.

Turmoil and dissention are made by men when they get in God’s way.

The Bible says, “Do not judge lest ye be judged.”

Ask yourself – “Who are you judging today?” What makes you better than the person(s) you are judging?

We’ve all fallen short of the glory of God so what makes you better than me?

I’m thankful that God loved me enough to send His only begotten son to take my place on the cross. Would you sacrifice your son? God let go – can you?

I’ve let go of my situations and I’m letting God do His perfect will in my life. He knows all my hopes and dreams, my fears and pains and yet He is still by my side, picking me up and carrying me when I need Him to – leaving footprints in the sand.
